Responsibilities:
JOB FUNCTION:
The function of the Phlebotomist/Clerk is to respond to the needs of our clients, both external and internal, in any one or more of the following areas: Phlebotomy, Accessioning, and Clerical.
Phlebotomy duties include collecting blood from all age groups (infants through elderly). Duties also include transport of specimens to the laboratory for testing, either via the tube system or on foot.
Accessioning duties are assisting technical personnel in preparation and organization of patient specimens for testing. Must perform waived tests if checked off by designated technical personnel.
Clerical duties include being the liaison between the laboratory and outpatient customers. Must possess good communication, computer and clerical skills to relate well with unit staff and physicians in order to lace the appropriate test orders, give test results or transfer to the appropriate technical area.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or high school/college student with a good academic record. Must be neat in appearance, able to relate to patients, and be able to follow instructions. Typing knowledge is helpful due to large amount of computer keyboard skill needed. Knowledge of medical terminology and a good foundation in science courses is helpful. Good customer service skills, calm and pleasant disposition necessary at all times.
