Directs and guides personnel assigned, including clinical partners, support partners and clerical partners. Delivers age appropriate education, care and support to all age groups that are provided services on the assigned unit. Utilizes critical thinking skills in planning care that takes into consideration the patient's conditions and complications, as well as the psychosocial impact of hospitalization on the family. Administers medication in a safe and timely manner. Assesses the patient continuously, in collaboration with the primary care provider, patient care management and other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care. Additional responsibilities based upon area/unit assignments: Antepartum - Assessment and care of patients during the antepartum period utilizing fetal and maternal monitoring. NICU and Intermediate Nursery - Assessment and care of critically ill neonates requiring hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, intravenous therapy, or other non-invasive monitoring and support. Assessing the family unit and providing support and education to facilitate a smooth transition at the time of discharge. Labor and Delivery - Assessment and care of patients during the antepartum and intrapartum periods Utilizing fetal and maternal monitoring. Is a patient advocate and develops a plan of care with collaboration from other disciplines and with consideration of the family's desires during the labor and delivery process. Responsible for circulating in the OR during C-sections deliveries, tubal ligations and D & C. Assists in the initial assessment and delivery of emergency care to the neonate. Family Care Center - Assessment and care of the neonate and the family unit. Administers medication/treatments to the newborn and education of the family in the care of the newborn. Assessment and care of the new mother from the time of completion of labor and delivery recovery period until the time of discharge from the unit, using critical thinking skills to determine any deviation from the normal post partum course. Educates new mothers in their personal care after discharge, as well as assisting with breastfeeding education. Cardiovascular - Assessment and care of patients with various cardiovascular disease processes and cardiovascular surgical procedures. Critical Care - Assessment and care of critically ill patients utilizing hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical ventilation support. Oncology - Assessment and care for patients includes treatment and management of acute and chronic pain, radiation therapy, administration of chemotherapy, biological modifying agents and end of life care. Orthopaedics - Assessment and care of patients undergoing treatment for Musculoskeletal Disorders and/or Musculoskeletal Surgical interventions. Transplant Unit - Assessment and care for pre - and post-renal patients, including transplant rejections and transplant evaluations. Women's Services - Assessment and care of postoperative gynecological or breast patient and gynecological medical patient. Neurosciences - Assessment and care of patients with various neurological disease processes and neurosurgical procedures. Graduate from a recognized school of nursing as a Registered Nurse is required. Possess a valid and current Registered Nurse License issued by the state of Georgia. Current BCLS certification.
