Description

The Research Technician III assists with the care, cleaning, feeding and treatment of animals as outlined by veterinarian and institution policies. Prepare animals for procedures. Able to calculate and formulate drug mixtures and infusion rates. Administer and monitor anesthesia during procedures and surgery This will require working beyond regular scheduled hours and working weekends . Assist with non-surgical animal procedures. Perform routine surgical approaches and closures. Maintain animal records and documents as described by the institutions policies. Able to perform basic and higher level ie. Neurologic health assessment on vivarium animals. Perform clinical and mechanical diagnostic testing procedures and maintain data in records. Assist with surgical recovery procedures and monitoring. Help maintain vivarium supplies and equipment. Perform sample collections during necropsies. Provide assistance and information to the animal care and project personnel. Must be able to quickly execute veterinarian orders even when they are not part of the routine job requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a two year degree AA with 10 years research experience in lieu of degree may have a high school diploma with experience as surgical tech, veterinary technician or other allied health profession experience. Bachelor's degree preferred. Cardiovascular Surgical Tech experience preferred. Research, surgical and GLP experience preferred. Previous experience in a large subject research lab preferred. Previous experience with swine, rabbits, rodents, sheep, and/or canines preferred. Experience as a Perfusionist or graduate of an accredited perfusion-training program a plus. Knowledge and ability to care for assess and treat basic subject health and medical problems. Knowledgeable regarding diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures performed in a Cath Lab including left heart catheterization, right heart catheterization, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, and stenting. Must have basic understanding of ECG and hemodynamic interpretation. Knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical procedures performed in the OR. Knowledgeable of different anesthetics and routine pharmaceuticals. Must be proficient in their administration. Competent understanding of the process flow, requirements, and documentation related to conducting research studies. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 30 to 50 pounds.
