Overall Job Objective

UNCLASSIFIED  TEMPORARY GRANT FUNDED POSITION
 
VACANCY IS IN THE BOARD OF HEALTH DEPARTMENT
(Work Assignment: Dentist Ryan White)
Note: Work hours are not to exceed 12 hours per week - hourly rate: $67.60 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited dental school with a Doctorate's Degree in Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or D.M.D.
  
Specific License or Certification Required:
License to practice as a Dentist issued by the State of Georgia;  License to prescribe and dispense medications issued through the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Examination:
The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as qualified. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to providing dental services to patients.  Responsibilities include evaluating the condition of patients' teeth, diagnosing and treating oral diseases, and performing appropriate dental therapies, such as restoration and extraction. This classification is distinguished from Dentist, Supervisor in that the former is licensed to perform dental restorations and extractions and administer anesthetics, whereas the latter supervises assigned clinical staff in addition to overseeing daily dental clinic operations.
 
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
Evaluates condition of patients' teeth, interprets x-rays, and diagnoses and treats oral diseases and infections
 
Performing routine dental procedures
 
Providing effective customer service
 
Using dental instruments and equipment
 
Performs a variety of dental treatments, such as restoration of carious teeth, root canals, oral prophylaxis, removable appliances restorations, and extractions, including administration of anesthetics

Writes prescriptions for treatment of patients
 
Directs and completes the preparation of patient charts, records, and information on various computer systems
 
Communicates effectively with patients of all ages and from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
 
Operates personal computers, including spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation, and other related software.
 
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other County personnel, officials, and the general public
 
Communication and interpersonal techniques as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
