DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The function of Gwinnett County Department of Planning and Development is to promote and enhance the quality of life of residents, visitors, property owners, and businesses of Gwinnett County.  The Department accomplishes its mission through programs and services that encourage high quality development as well as maintenance and revitalization of existing neighborhoods.  The Department consists of the Administration Division, Planning Division, and  the Development Division.

The Engineer I position is responsible for multiple aspects of the review process within the Storm/Water/Sewer Plan Review Section of Planning and Development.  Primary responsibilities include:  review of development plans and documents for compliance with applicable regulations and adherence to mandated guidelines pertaining specifically to stormwater, water and sewer design; review of various associated reports (hydrology, flood, and as-built) for compliance with the Gwinnett County Unified Development Ordinance and other applicable codes or procedures; evaluation of maintenance agreements, bond information, and water/sewer easement documents for compliance with Gwinnett County regulations; research, investigation, and evaluation of complaints and inquiries received by the public or management regarding water, sewer, and stormwater issues.  This position may supervise staff, assist in budget preparation, and perform other miscellaneous duties of a similar nature.

The Engineer II and III roles will perform multiple aspects of the review process requiring more experience and skill in evaluating engineering plans and maps as well as supporting larger, more complex projects.

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer I 
Salary: $49,862 - $66,067

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residency

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer II
Salary: $54,226 - $71,850
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field
  • One year of related experience
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residency

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer III
Salary: $64,130 - $84,972
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Two years of related experience
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residency
