At Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia (“HFHP”), we are builders who work alongside, not for others. We are driven by accountability and defined by our stick-to-itiveness.  The Finish Carpenter/Site Supervisor manages the construction and/or rehabilitation of HFHP houses in accordance with applicable building codes, manages construction crew on-site and is responsible for processes and personnel in a way that utilizes volunteer and staff labor, subcontractors, donated and purchased materials, and produces quality homes in partnership with low-income families in a safe and affordable manner.

Key Responsibility Areas:
  • Supervise and coordinate all aspects of finish construction on HFHP build sites.
  • Will be responsible for the house, from insulation stage through finishes, including yard landscaping.
  • Develop and implement a construction schedule in coordination with Construction Superintendent.
  • Train and supervise, AmeriCorps members, future homeowners, and on-site volunteers in construction practices, safety, and adherence to Habitat’s guidelines and policies.
  • Responsible for on-site safety programs, ensuring that worksite and all workers on site meet regulatory safety requirements at all times.
  • Strong diverse carpentry skills are a plus. There will be up to 20% of time spent on framing, siding, fencing, etc.
  • Maintain a good relationship with all staff, homeowners, vendors, volunteers, and others, presenting a friendly persona and representing HFHP in a positive manner.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
  • Considerable knowledge in the construction/contracting business (carpentry, foundations, siding, roofing, finishing, painting, landscaping) and supervision, minimum five (5) years of related job experience.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project as well as PROCORE helpful.
  • Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Possesses or would be willing to gain certifications in safety/first aid, OSHA 30, EPA RRP, and Habitat for Humanity Competent Person.
  • Must adhere to drug and alcohol testing policies.
  • Professional attitude and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with unskilled volunteers and in diverse populations. Team building/volunteer leadership experience a real plus.
  • Desire to exhibit and promote the Habitat for Humanity philosophy.
  • Ability to effectively serve people of different races, religions, incomes and education levels.
  • Exhibit the Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia core values, including “working alongside, not for.”

Physical Requirements to Perform Duties
  • Ability to perform all construction duties, such as lifting up to 60 lbs., ability to work from a kneeling position, etc.

  • This position is eligible for medical, dental, paid vacation, sick time, and holidays. Salary is commensurate with experience.
