The YMCA of Metro Atlanta serves more than 300,000 individuals with 23 full facilities and ten additional camping and childcare locations. Under the supervision of the Day Camp Preschool Site Coordinator/ Preschool Programs and  Camp Assistant Director(s), in cooperation of other staff, and consistent with the YMCA mission, the Lead Preschool Camp Counselor is responsible for achieving the goals of the day camp through planning and implementation of activities which provide guidance, leadership, values education and enjoyment for preschool-aged children served by camp.  The Lead Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety and well-being of children in his/her care.

Know How:

Must be 18 years or older. Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have prior experience working with preschool-age children in a group setting. A licensed setting is preferred. Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Must pass the State of Georgia criminal background check. Program knowledge of and ability to implement environmental education, crafts, games and Youth Start For Life program.

Essential Functions:

Create an environment that provides various activities and instruction. Oversight of daily activities and curriculum implementation in assigned classroom. Collaborate with and oversee counselor in classroom. Take daily attendance at the start of the program and during each transition. Coordinate supply request with supervisor. Assist in planning and implementing various program activities. Must attend all YMCA and other training's as scheduled. Consult with the Preschool Site Coordinator/Preschool Programs and Camp Assistant Director on concerns related to student(s) development or behavior before speaking with the parent. Perform other duties as related to the delivery of a day camp program.

Ergonomic Requirements: Bending, stooping, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, seeing, verbal communication and hearing.

Due to the nature and needs of this program, the Day Camp Lead Preschool Counselor should be able to exemplify leadership qualities and perform the following tasks: provide guidance and support to assistant counselor, plan or assemble the day's activities (STEAM, interactive games and songs, reading/literacy, etc.), be attentive to each child's needs, be very engaging and playful, and exhibit appropriate behaviors around children at all times.
